Rose Quartz and White – The Dual Mani

My latest Powder mani uses this years pantone, Rose Quartz with classic white, presenting a dual mani where the two shades start from either side and join in the middle.

The trend from a two-tone, dual accent nail or featured on every digit is big news for spring 2016 especially in romantic pastel tones, and yet the two hues worn in this way, redefine the classic French manicure and offer up an edgy yet playful way to wear pastels.

Inky Goth-Glam Blue – THE Colour to be seen in

Midnight / inky / deep / goth-glam-punk blue – call it what you want but one thing is for sure, it ‘s a colour that is at the top of the fashion and beauty pile when it comes to shades to be seen in.

Gracing the front cover of the latest Glamour magazine (December 2015), on the talons of Tanya Burr and as seen everywhere from on celebrities to the High Street, this deep shade of blue is hot.

It would be rude not to opt for the same blue on my own talons for my latest Powder mani then wouldn’t it?

The team used ‘Up All Night’ Gelaze finish and I can’t get enough. It goes with everything and makes me feel glamorous even if I have been Up All Night (but sadly not drinking cocktails, but instead due to my toddler)!

Fashion Blogger, Chiara Ferragni looks fabulous in this bejeweled embellishment tunic dress and slouchy boots while Karlie Kloss takes the shade casual with a classic denim, jumper, coat and matching accessories combination.

I also have my eye on these Sam Edelman Dea Deep Blue Heeled Court Shoes, £145 that will go perfectly with anything from your skinny jeans to your Christmas party dress. A smart investment really 🙂

Speaking of parties, razzle dazzle them in these inky blue dresses and enjoy.

Ready, Steady, Glitter!

This manicure takes inspiration from the Ashish SS16 London Fashion Week show with a little festive magic thrown in.  Yes, the festive season is nearly upon us!

Glittery seasonal manicure

The latest Ashish collection was one giant glitter party, from the clothes and shoes to the hair and make-up – everything had a dose of sparkle and fun.  I love this mood as I’m probably one of the only people thoroughly looking forward to Christmas already; when it is sequin and sparkle central.

While I love the playfulness of the multi-coloured brights in the Ashish glitter manicure, the shades aren’t quite right for this time of year so instead, give a nod to next season and choose autumn-inspired hues.  Berry and wine shades, such as claret and plum.  This Gelaze gel, with its wine-red and subtle sparkle tones is perfect.

I think of it as grown-up glitter as the glitter particles capture the light rather than jump out at you.  Ideal for all those pending Christmas parties, this mani will not only compliment your LBD but it will last the pace just like you.

White on Nude: Neutrals for Spring/ Summer 2015

For the spring / summer 2015 catwalks, nail designs and colours came in all shades of the spectrum and from the simple and elegant to the outright bedazzled. Whereas I do love a spot of zany nail art (if you’re an avid reader of this blog you’ll know that by now), one of my personal favourite looks for the season is nude nails. Understated, chic and a goes-with-everything colour, nude oozes sophistication and versatility.

You can either keep nails oval and long with a simple nude tone or complete the look with a diamond embellishment at the base of the nail, this looks great on short nails. But with white also being on trend, I chose to blend the two with this gel moon manicure. By teaming white with of-the-minute nude, it won’t look so harsh and adds an element of interest and originality.

Fashion

You can either flaunt your nails and wear a contrasting colour to enhance them, such as navy blue or fuchsia pink or else complement the tones and wear head to toe neutrals like these gorgeous outfits – perfect inspiration for summer…

That 70s Manicure

This months manicure is inspired by the current 70s trends and in particular, Geo Pop inspiration.  Think graphic shapes colliding with precision and contrasting shades of mustard, blues and greens…

70s geo prints inspiration for nail art

When I designed this nail art, the salon team at Powder were quite dubious as to my colour choices but then pleasantly surprised when they saw how well the grey-blue and mint green complemented one another.

70s geo nail art

The trick to pulling off the geo 70s vibe with confidence is to throw abandon to fashion rules.  Think brown and blue don’t go together?  This season they’re a match made in heaven.  Consider orange and yellow to be ‘out there’?  Well in this trend story, they’re a must-wear combination.  Mix it up and team your tonal aqua blue dress with red lipstick, a basket weave tote and stacked heels and of course your designer mani by Powder.

70s geo nail art blue and green

Another print combining colour and shapes is Aztec, a Far Eastern -inspired mish mash and there is plenty of it in the shops right now.  This Warehouse Aztec Print Midi Dress, £32 will see you into spring summer and is perfect to combine the 70s vibe with.  Wear yours with a floppy hat and suede fringed bag.

Edgy Pastels

edgy pastels manicure
I couldn’t decide which spring 2015 pastel shade to wear so I chose all of them!

Pastels come around every springtime but this time they’re different; edgier, duskier and pretty without being sickly sweet.  You’re regular baby pink is now dusky rose and baby blue is more a muted aqua.  Good news too if you’re investing in pastels now, whether it’s for your nails or wardrobe, since they’re set to continue into autumn / winter with the likes of TOPSHOP, Dior, Matthew Williamson and Holly Fulton all showing edgy pastels at London Fashion Week back in February.

To bring them up to date, wear your pastels with dusky hues of blue like navy and various denim rinses or introduce pastels into your outfit via accessories.  I love these gorgeous pastel paint print pumps, mint tote bag and fringed parcel bag all by Aldo at Churchill Square Shopping Centre.  Fringing is huge fashion news giving a nod to the current 70s vibe and since I spotted these bags, I keep thinking about them (so that means I’m going to have to buy them).  Sure, I don’t need them but as I keep I telling my husband- buying handbags is not about need, it’s about want.

My latest manicure champions a number of key hues for SS15:

  • You’re Such a Budapest (lilac)
  • Gargantuan Green (the brighter green)
  • Samoan Sand (the light peach)
  • Disco Stick Grey (the blue/ grey/green on the little finger)
  • Tauple-less Beach (the tauple/mink)

All OPI gels.

Why stick to one when you an have them all?

Lilac Dreams and Romantic Hearts for Valentines Day

cute Valentines nail art

This months mani uses Valentines Day as its inspiration with cute white hearts painted on my thumbs and ring finger to give a subtle nod to the love theme but without being too sickly-sweet.  This way, once the hype has passed, my nails will still look on trend thanks to the dusky lilac pastel shade on the base.

lilac hearts nail art

I don’t normally choose lilac but I’m totally in love with it, s’cuse the pun.  It has attracted plenty of compliments and I find it goes with everything I wear.  In fact, I’m really fond of this seasons pastels.  They get a more grown up, edgy appeal with denser, duskier hues this time around.  This counts for your wardrobe and your make up.  I love the dusky lilac and rose nail polishes available, plus the pastel clothing of the now uses quilting and bonded fabric to add a more structured cut with utilitarian strong lines.  Love!

Since it’s Valentines Day though, team your talons with this cute lilac Boux Avenue DEMI DIAMANTE SHINY CAMI SET, £30.   Single or attached, it’s a real treat for you or your partner.

So get thee to Powder and have some fun with your look.  Happy Valentines Day.

French with a Twist

twisted french manicure

The upcoming trend that is creeping in for spring is geometric but not as the loud print you might be used to, more subtle whites and pastels and in crochet and knit like the below TOPSHOP Geometric Knitted Vest in fresh summer white.

geo nail art
Geo Clothing, Geo Nails

This is the inspiration for my latest nail art design by Powder – french with a twist.  The classic white tip has been catapulted into today’s current trends with a geo slant. As ever, my mani uses gel as this is what works best for me for a manicure that lasts but you can have it in polish and Powder will use a long-lasting topcoat for you. I love it.  What do you think?

Get ahead of the fashion pack with this one – the perfect style to sport at London Fashion Week.
